    Proposed CIP 2020-2025 Issued

    The proposed 2020 - 2025 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for the City of Petoskey will be reviewed by the City Council at their Monday, September 16, 2019 meeting. This document serves as an instrument to identify needs and financing sources for public infrastructure improvements. It also informs city residents how the City plans to address significant capital needs over the next six years.

    Residential Rubbish Collection Program

    The City's Weekly Residential Rubbish-Collection Program will consist of a spring and fall collection period. Spring collection will be for a period of two weeks which will occur the last two weeks in May. Fall collection will be for a period of two weeks in late August and early September. This four-week-long program will provide collection services to City residents located West of Howard Street on Tuesdays and to residents East of Howard Street on Wednesdays.

    Weekly, residential, rubbish-drop-off-program services again will be provided by the City of Petoskey Department of Public Works crews within the Bay Harbor portion of the City. This four-weekend-long program will provide rubbish drop-off services during a two weekend period in the spring and a two weekend period in the fall. Drop off sites will be available at the southeast and southwest ends of Bay Harbor.

    Master Plan Public Forum Scheduled for September 5

    Residents are encouraged to join local leaders on Thursday, September 5, 2019, from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., at North Central Michigan College Library Conference Room for a "resilient community conversation," the official kickoff of the public engagement portion of this community planning process.

    Possible Medical Marijuana Provisioning Facility Locations

    City Council will discuss ordinances on August 5 concerning zoning and licensing for Medical Marijuana Provisioning Facilities.  Areas shaded in blue on the draft map would allow Medical Marijuana Provisioning Facilities subject to zoning and licensing ordinance provisions including a 500 foot buffer between facilities and limited number of facilities as determined by City Council.  The draft map is not to scale and is for discussion purposes only until ordinances are adopted by City Council.

    Lake Street Dam Public Meetings Scheduled

    The initial kick-off meeting to explore alternative designs for the Lake Street Dam is scheduled for August 21. Public meetings to educate the public and solicit input on the project will occur at City Hall with both a 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. session.

    City Approves 100% Renewable Energy by 2035

    City Council recently adopted a resolution approving a vision of 100% renewable energy powering the City's electric needs by 2035. The City of Petoskey has adopted the 2014 Petoskey Master Plan that addresses environmental, economic and social goals pertaining to long-term sustainability and resiliency within the community. The Master Plan also encourages the City to work with the Michigan Public Power Agency (MPPA) and other jurisdictions to develop and utilize alternative, renewable energy resources. City Council adopted the 2018 Action Plan with Goal Five to Develop and Promote Community Sustainability Measures by conserving energy and promoting energy efficiencies and the use of clean and renewable energy.  Addressing energy use and climate change with renewable energy goals provides an opportunity for the City to move towards greater community sustainability and resiliency.

    New Firework Regulations

    City Council adopted Ordinance 771 on June 3, 2019 amending Chapter 10 Fire Prevention and Control concerning fireworks in the City.  The change in ordinance is based on the change in State law.  The ordinance takes effect June 18, 2019.
