    Downtown Bathroom Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

    The City held a "toilet paper cutting ceremony" Friday, June 7 at the Summer Open House for the recently renovated downtown bathrooms. From L-R- City Manager Rob Straebel, Parks and Recreation Director Kendall Klingelsmith, general contractor Bob Jess-Freshwater Charch, Mayor John Murphy, Downtown Director Becky Goodman, DMB Chairperson Reg Smith, and project architect Ric Neumann.  The project was a collaboration between the Downtown Management Board and the City of Petoskey using a $150,000 Land and Water Conservation grant. The facilities include a family bathroom, upgraded recycling area, and more men's and women's bathroom fixtures.

    Public Safety Staff Participates in Baseball Game

    Public Safety staff met up with the Little League Challenger Team on Friday, June 7 and played a baseball game! Staff suited up and helped encourage the players throughout the game.  Community engagement is a key factor in making the City's Public Safety Department a success.  Kudos to the Public Safety Department for their positive actions in helping so many lives in the community.

    New Firework Regulations

    City Council adopted Ordinance 771 on June 3, 2019 amending Chapter 10 Fire Prevention and Control concerning fireworks in the City.  The change in ordinance is based on the change in State law.  The ordinance takes effect June 18, 2019.

    City Hears Darling Lot Feedback

    The City of Petoskey held a public open house Thursday, June 6, 2019 to receive feedback from community members on design preferences and potential residential or commercial uses for a City-owned lot, the Darling Lot, located at the corner of Michigan and Petoskey Streets in downtown Petoskey.

    Hydrant Flushing Information

    Department of Public Works crews will begin fire hydrant flushing and maintenance procedures at various locations throughout the City Monday, May 6.  Flushing will be accomplished only during daylight hours.  Please look for posted signs for hydrant flushing in your area.

    Customers might experience discolored water as a result of hydrant-flushing operations. If so, faucets should be opened to allow water to run freely for several minutes until becoming clear.

    US-31 Construction Detour Updates

    The detour of northbound US-31 traffic on city streets in Petoskey is expected to end next week (week of June 17), roughly two weeks ahead of schedule, weather and construction progress dependent.  Work has reached a point that will allow contractors to restore one lane of traffic in each direction on US-31.  Construction will continue, with lane closures and traffic shifts.
