Police, fire, and emergency-medical services are provided through a unified Department of Public Safety, whose sworn personnel maintain State certifications in all three disciplines. In 2023, approximately 8,340 requests for service resulted in 56 felony arrests and 334 misdemeanor arrests.  The Department operates eight pieces of fire equipment, eight patrol vehicles, and two rescue boats. The City enjoys a "Class 3" community fire-insurance rating.  To review a copy of the ISO Public Protection Classification Summary Report, please click here.

Department of Public Safety Officers are available by calling 911 for both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.  If you are out of the Emmet County area, you can reach our dispatch center at 1-800-577-1911.
