Little Traverse Wheelway

Location: This multi-jurisdictional trail begins near the eastern limits of the City of Charlevoix and extends east and north to Horseshoe Drive (near the Harborbike Springs Airport) on M-119. A missing segment of trail along the rail corridor between the City of Petoskey, Magnus Park and Resort Township’s East Park is now being engineered. Easements for the trail segment from Horseshoe Drive along M-119 to Harbor Springs are currently being assembled by the Michigan Department of Transportation, The Top of Michigan Trails Council and the Little Traverse Wheelway Committee.  Size: 28 miles in length (8-miles within the City limits) 

Popular trail heads and parking area are Bay Front Park, Magnus Park, Glen's North, Resort TWP's East Park, Bay Front Park West, and the Petoskey State Park.

Description:

This multi-jurisdictional, paved, non-motorized trail spans the communities along the shoreline of Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay, including the Cities of Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs. The trails location adjacent to Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay, provides users with scenic views and at public parks, access to the bay. The paved trail is actively used by bicyclists, joggers, walkers, rollerbladers and in the winter months by snowshoers and cross-country skiers. Within the City limits of Petoskey, the trail extends through Magnus Park, Solanus Mission Beach and the entire length of Bayfront Park.

The City of Petoskey entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Country Trail Association that established Petoskey as a "Trail Town" of the North Country Trail. The North Country Trail route through Petoskey includes the NCMC Natural Area, the Bear River Valley Recreation Area, and a section of the Little Traverse Wheelway.
