Iron Belle-Bear River Bridge Open to Public

The City of Petoskey Parks and Recreation Department would like to inform the public the new Iron Belle-Bear River bridge, which connects the North Central Michigan College’s 195-acre Natural Area to the City of Petoskey’s River Road Sports Complex, is now open. The addition of the bridge allows users of the North Country Trail a safer pedestrian experience by eliminating 3 miles of vehicular shared route. The Iron Belle-Bear River Bridge was a cooperative effort between the City of Petoskey, North Country Trail Association, Jordan Valley 45° Chapter and North Central Michigan College. “This is another step forward for outdoor recreation in our community, and I extend congratulations to all involved” exclaimed NCMC President David Roland Finley.

The $230,000 bridge was funded through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant, Iron Belle Trail Grant, City of Petoskey and fundraising efforts by the North Country Trail Association and local Jordan Valley 45° Chapter of the NCTA. North Central Michigan College played an integral role in easement access and advocating for the project.
