Planning Commission Recommends Proposed Short-term Rental Ordinance for Council Consideration

Meeting in regular session, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Planning Commission:

  • Approved a 2023-24 Planning Commission Work Program and created two subcommittees to work on drafting a rental inspection program and begin reviewing the zoning ordinance for future revisions;
  • Made a motion to recommend that City Council consider approving a rezoning request for parcel 52-19-07-201-059 (Clarion Avenue) from R-2 to I-1;
  • Approved site plan changes as submitted for the Lofts at Lumber Square, 900 Emmet Street;
  • Made a motion to recommend that City Council consider approval of a Short-term Rental Ordinance to create licensing and regulatory framework of short-term rentals;
  • Scheduled a public hearing for June 21 to consider approval of a Short-term Rental Ordinance to amend Appendix A; Zoning Ordinance to allow for short-term rentals in certain zoning districts; and
  • Made a motion to recommend that City Council consider a Short-term Rental cap of 35 units, not to exceed 40.
