Electricity Service

Through the Michigan Public Power Agency, a consortium of 18 of the State's 41 cities and villages that own and operate electric utilities, the City in 2016 purchased 106,983,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity for $6,694,968 and received $11,167,900 in revenues from its resale.  Operating and capital expenses in 2016 totaled $12,349,256.  The City serves about 5,606 electric customers and owns entitlements to portions of power-generating plants near Kalkaska, West Olive, Saint Claire in Michigan and Fremont in Ohio.  The City owns two substations and approximately 75 miles of a complete distribution system, including facilities at the adjacent Bay View Association grounds and elsewhere outside the City, more than half of which has been installed underground.
