Planning Commission Meets August 19
At its regular August 19 meeting, the Planning Commission approved, with conditions, a parking plan for Northwestern Bank, 919 Spring Street. The Commission also directed the City staff to develop ordinance language on allowing chickens in the City for its consideration, and accepted and forwarded to the City Council the 2011-2015 Capital Improvement Program.
Festival-on-the-Bay Scheduled
The annual Festival-on-the-Bay program will take place today through Sunday at Bayfront Park, as well as various locations in the downtown. Bayfront Park activities will include live entertainment, children's activities, food vendors, sporting events, and a celebration of the sunset; and downtown activities will include a Farmer's Market and a Saturday arts-and-crafts show. Downtown Management Board Meets August 17
In addition to routine monthly business, the Downtown Management Board on August 17 reviewed for the first time drafts of anticipated revenues and expenses for the Downtown Development and Management Fund and Downtown Parking Fund that eventually would be recommended to the City Manager for inclusion in the City's proposed 2010 Annual Budget, and tabled these budget matters for further consideration at its September 21 regular meeting.
The Board also approved funding to enlist the services of a consultant for design of a Downtown Archway project and directed its Design Committee to prepare a Request for Proposals and to review RFP applicants and make a recommendation for a design consultant to the Downtown Management Board.
City Council Meets August 16
At its August 16 meeting, the City Council:

Adopted Ordinance 718 that repealed and replaced Section 903 of Article IX of the Zoning Ordinance concerning residential uses within the B2 Central Business District zoning district;

Adopted Ordinance 719 that amended Section 2.1, Definitions; 4.1, Signs Prohibited; 5.1, Permitted Temporary Signs in all Districts; 6.1, Permitted Permanent Signs; 8.1, On-Premise Signs; 8.2, Special Condition Signs; 9.1, Restrictions upon Non-Conforming Signs; and 10.1, Municipal Civil Infractions of the Sign Ordinance;
-
Requested the City Attorney to prepare a draft ordinance that would amend the Sign Ordinance to permit all businesses to display sandwich-board signs year-round, during business hours, for a one-year trial period; and
-
Continued consideration of the 2011-2015 Capital Improvements Program and tabled further discussion to the August 30, 2010, City Council meeting.
Fall 2010 Rubbish Collection Program
The Residential Rubbish-Collection Program and Residential Rubbish-Drop-off Program will be provided by the City of Petoskey's Department of Public Works crews in September.
