City Council Meets August 2 and 4
Meeting in regular session on August 2, the City Council:

At the request of the City Manager, deferred action concerning a proposed resolution that would endorse a proposed Bayfront Park Waterfall Area lighthouse project, with the condition of a time-specific agreement to be drafted to stipulate that the installation of the lighthouse in Bayfront Park should not take place until sufficient funds had been raised and secured by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association to complete the engineering, construction, and installation of the lighthouse and to have established an endowment fund for long-term maintenance of the structure, to allow the City staff additional time to review all factors of this suggested location, as well as other locations, and to permit the Parks and Recreation Commission to comment concerning these alternative locations from its June 2 recommended location at Sunset Park;

Adopted Ordinance 717 that would amend a schedule of fines referenced in Ordinance 715 as "Exhibit A" to include a schedule of fines for violation of Ordinance 710, entitled Fire Prevention Code;

Conducted first readings and tabled action concerning two proposed ordinances, the first of which would repeal and replace Section 903 of Article IX of the Zoning Ordinance, and the second which would amend Sections 2.1, Definitions; 4.1 Signs Prohibited; 5.1, Permitted Temporary Signs in all Districts; 6.1, Permitted Permanent Signs; 8.1, On-Premise Signs; 8.2, Sepcial Condition Signs; 9.1, Restrictions upon Non-Conforming Signs; and 10.1, Municipal Civil Infractions of the Sign Ordinance;

Appointed Elizabeth Looze to the Planning Commission to fill a vacancy that will expire August 31, 2011; and

Recessed to closed session prior to adjournment to discuss matters pertaining to possible purchase or lease of real property, with no further action conducted at the August 2 session.
Meeting in special-session on August 4, the City Council and the Bay Harbor Community Council - Finance and Taxes, conducted its last work session by hearing presentations from both the City staff and Bay Harbor representatives concerning sources of revenues and services by both Bay Harbor and the City of Petoskey. Both Councils concluded this last meeting with common understandings of the facts, desires, and constraints facing each Council.
