Marina Expansion Nears Completion
The marina expansion and renovation project is nearing completion. Crews arrived on site in mid July and began preparing for construction of a fourth pier and improvements to the marina services building restrooms, showers, lobby, and grounds.
The project was funded by a grant from the State of Michigan DNRE Waterways Division in the amount of $822,000, City marina revenues, and bond sales. As part of the State grant-in-aid agreement, 22 of 44 new slips will be for transient use only and will be available on the State of Michigan central reservation system. The remaining 22 slips will be available for seasonal use. Staff has maintained a waiting list for seasonal dockage for years and the creation of new seasonal slips will help reduce the wait list.

Crews have relocated the existing marina shelter from shore to Pier A and added new shingles, seating, and paint. This has created the space needed to renovate and expand the restroom and shower facilities. In addition to freeing up space on shore, the relocated shelter on Pier A will serve as a shelter and picnic area. New pier bump outs on Pier B and Pier C, along with the renovated lobby of the marina services building will provide additional functional space. Also, an overlook deck has been constructed in front of the marina services building that will serve as an additional picnic/gathering area.
Pier C has 30', 38', 45', 60' and 83'' slips. There is also about 192' of broadside dockage as well. Several slips are also ADA accessible (5' Wide). The new pier features a waste pump-out system throughout the entire pier which will allow vessels to dispose waste without leaving their slip. There are several power pedestals that offer 30/50/100 amp service along with water. Pier lighting is similar to the lighting on Pier A/B which feature goose neck lights.
Entry archways to each pier B, C and D have been installed. The restrooms have been completely remodeled from floor to ceiling. The exterior of the marina service building has been painted, re-shingled and joined to the new shower facility. The number of showers has increased from 4 to 8. The front room that was previously just a vending room has been painted, re-tiled and will feature comfortable furniture, TV, weather station, reading materials and charts.
A punch list of items will be completed in the spring and allow the marina to open on May 1st as usual. The marina will also have several small addtions as well such as, more courtesy bikes, bike racks, and new grills.
Staff looks forward to greeting you with our new amenities. Please call or email staff with any questions regarding the marina in general or the project.
