Parks and Recreation Commission Endorses Lighthouse Project for Sunset Park
Meeting in special session June 2, the Parks and Recreation Commission conducted a public hearing and received a presentation from the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association concerning the proposed construction of a replica of the pagoda-style lighthouse that originally set on the Petoskey Pier in the early 20th century. The Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association reported that it would fund this project and requested that the lighthouse be placed within Sunset Park (the Association had been turned down to place the replica on the U.S. Army Corps Breakwater). The Parks and Recreation Commission endorsed this project and will now recommend that the City Council also endorse this project for Sunset Park.
