City Council Meets May 24
Monday, the City Council met in special session and heard a presentation from Northern Lakes Economic Alliance, Boyne City, concerning incentives that were currently available to encourage community development and redevelopment through tax-abatement and tax-increment financing programs. The City Council concurred that future discussion of such programs for various sites within the City that included the Hankey Lumber property, former Continental Structural Plastics property, Petoskey Pointe site, and declining neighborhoods could benefit from such programs.
Cooperative Weather Buoy Deployed

The Little Traverse Bay Weather Buoy has been deployed for the 2011 boating season. The buoy was first deployed on July 30th, 2009 and is retrieved for the winter months each fall. Boaters are encouraged to check the buoy data prior venturing out into the open water.
The buoy was originally funded by the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS). However, The City of Petoskey, along with the Cities of Charlevoix and Harbor Springs, Irish Boat Shop, Walstrom Marine, Bay Harbor Lake Marina, Bay Harbor Yacht Club, and Little Traverse Yacht Club have collaborated to help deploy and maintain the buoy annually. This community collaboration is the first of it's kind.
The Little Traverse Buoy joins a growing network of buoys and weather stations on the Great Lakes and beyond. Buoy data such as wind speed, air temperature, water temperature, wave height, and dew point may be observed on the University of Michigan's Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratories website and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website. A live feed of the buoy data is also available on the marina section of the City's website.
