LITTLE TRAVERSE WHEELWAY

Location: This multi-jurisdictional trail begins near the eastern limits of the City of Charlevoix and extends east and north to Horseshoe Drive (near the Harbor Springs Airport) on M-119. A missing segment of trail along the rail corridor between the City of Petoskey, Magnus Park and Resort Township’s East Park is now being engineered. Easements for the trail segment from Horseshoe Drive along M-119 to Harbor Springs are currently being assembled by the Michigan Department of Transportation, The Top of Michigan Trails Council and the Little Traverse Wheelway Committee. Size: 28 miles in length (8-miles within the City limits)


Description:

Upon completion, this multi-jurisdictional, paved, non-motorized trail will span the communities along the shoreline of Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay, including the Cities of Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs. The trails location adjacent to Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay, provides users with scenic views and at public parks, access to the bay. The paved trail is actively used by bicyclists, joggers, walkers, rollerbladers and in the winter months by snowshoers and cross-country skiers. Within the City limits of Petoskey, the trail extends through Magnus Park, Solanus Mission Beach and the entire length of Bayfront Park.
